Swallowed by the Black Light

[ Prologue ]

INU:   It's now time for Inuyasha!

KAG:  To find the Sacred Jewel fragments,

INU:   I have to defeat Naraku with this Tetsusaiga!

KAG:  We are collecting the Sacred Jewel fragments as we travel. Sesshomaru is attacked by Jakotsu and Suikotsu. Meanwhile, Kikyo meets another dead person, Bankotsu.

INU:   Miroku and Sango and Shippo and Kirara!

KAG:  An excitng adventure unfolds!

INU & KAG: Inuyasha!

[ ACT I ]

Daytime. KIK is walking in a dense forest. She stops and turns around, and looks at Mount Hakurei in the distance.

KIK:   (thinking) Mount Hakurei? There is no question that Naraku is there. But… (turns around and continues walking) Why is he there?

At the Shichinintai grave. A piece of Kyokotsu’s armor and Mukotsu’s backpack of poison of placed near to the broken grave. BKS is seated, drinking sake forlornly.

BKS:   Kyokotsu, Mukotsu… How does it feel to be dead again?

BKS then throws his bowl at the grave. The bowl shatters and he stands up in fury.

BKS:   Bullshit! Once you’re dead, that’s it. There’s no such thing as an afterlife.

BKS picks up Banryuu and walks away.

[ Title screen: Swallowed by the Black Light ]

Cut to KIK walking in the forest. BKS walks in the opposite direction and KIK notices the dark shards in his neck.

KIK:   (thinking) This man…

KIK stops and lets BKS walk past her. She then notices the dark shards in Banryuu too.

BKS:   (stops) Are you… Kikyo?

KIK:   Shichinintai?

BKS scoffs and continues walking.

KIK:   Hey.

BKS:   (stops) What is it?

KIK:   Aren’t you supposed to kill me?

BKS:   (smirks) Naraku didn’t tell me to kill you.

KIK draws her arrow at BKS.

BKS:   (interested) I’ve heard about you, but you’re different from what I expected. You want to fight me? Sounds like fun. (points Banryuu at KIK) I’ll fight you.

KIK:   (thinking) This man’s Sacred Jewel fragments… Unlike Suikotsu’s, they’re giving off a corrupted black light. Has his heart been completely overtaken by darkness?

BKS:   What’s wrong? Aren’t you going to attack me?

KIK:   What are you doing in this world? Why do you continue to kill after being revived? Do you have a reason for it?

BKS:   (smiles) You ask strange questions. I don’t need a reason to kill. I’ve always been like this. Both before and after I was revived.

KIK:   (relaxes her bow) In this era, sometimes it’s necessary to kill for one’s own survival. But you’re dead now. Why not change the way you live?

BKS:   Keh! I am a mercenary. I find this fun. People believe in heaven and hell, but when a human dies, that’s the end for him. I’ve got no interest in the other world. As long as I’m alive, I’ll do what I like.

KIK:   Is that what you always tell yourself? You only think for yourself.

BKS:   Well then, Kikyo. The dead will meet with the same fate. Why don’t you worry about yourself instead? Well, whatever. (turns around and walks off) Let’s both try to live as long as we can.

A gust of wind blows and some dead leaves are blown into the sky. KIK looks up at the dead leaves.

KIK:   The fate of the dead… Should I care about this?

KIK walks off.

Cut to SES-gang on a cliff, near a bridges. SES face off with JKS.

SES:   You’re Naraku’s helper, aren’t you?

JKS:   (laughs) Aren’t you smart?

SES:   You smell like that poison user. You smell of the dead.

JKS:   A good sense of smell. I’d expect no less from Inuyasha’s brother!

JKS throws his sword at SES, who flicks it away easily with Tokijin. SES then runs forth and swings Tokijin down. JKS is thrown off.

JKS:   (crawls aside) How dangerous!

JAK:   (jumps up and down excitedly) Foolish human, prepare to die!

JKS stands and throws his sword at JAK and Rin. It misses them but JAK and Rin are horrified.

JKS:   What did you say, you midget?

JAK:   Did you call me a midget?

JKS laughs. Suddenly SES appears behind JKS. JKS gasps, spins around and throws his sword at SES. SES blocks with Tokijin.

SES:   Jaken!

JAK:   Yes…! Let’s go, Rin. (grabs Rin and starts running)

Rin:  Okay, but…

SES lands in front of the bridge and lets JAK and Rin run past him onto the bridge.

JAK:   We can’t help him. We’ll just be a hindrance to Lord Sesshomaru.

JKS:   You’re protecting that little girl… How sweet of you!

SES:   You talk a lot for a dead person.

JKS:   (riled) I’m getting tired of being called a dead person! But, I guess that means you won’t hold back during the fight.

SES doesn’t reply.

JKS:   Alright, let’s go!

JKS swings his sword at SES, who leaps and dodges. Cut to Rin and JAK on the bridge.

Rin:  Lord Sesshomaru… will he be okay?

JAK:   Lord Sesshomaru will never be defeated by a human!

Rin:  You might though, Lord Jaken!

JAK:   What’s that supposed to mean? I’m a demon too! I’d never be defeated by a human.

JAK and Rin stop running as they hear someone approaching them from the other side of the bridge. It is SKS. He brandishes his claws.

JAK:   (trembling) What…? He looks tough…

Cut to JKS and SES fighting. SES, noticing SKS, turns around and gasps.

JKS:   Now’s my chance!

JKS throws his sword at SES and knocks Tokijin out of his hand. Tokijin is thrust onto a rock face. JKS then flings his sword at SES. SES merely takes a step aside and dodges the attack.

JKS:   You’d better not get distracted! (laughs)

SES glares at JKS. Cut to SKS, Rin and JAK on the bridge. SKS attacks Rin, who dodges and falls down.

SKS:  You’re finished.

JAK:   Rin, get back!

JAK stands between Rin and SKS. Rin starts crawling backwards. SKS claws at JAK, who blocks with his Human Head Staff.

JAK:   (thinking) If anything happens to Rin, Lord Sesshomaru will kill me.! Then I’d better… ! (points staff at SKS) Demon Head Curse!

One of the heads of the Human Head Staff opens and spews a large flame which envelops SKS. The flame dissipates to reveal SKS gone and part of the bridge broken and burnt. The bridge starts to creak and shake.

JAK:   (excited) Did I get him?

Rin:  Lord Jaken, the bridge is going to fall!

JAK:   I know, let’s go!

JAK and Rin start running. Suddenly SKS thrust his claws from underneath the bridge, between JAK and Rin.

JAK:   (shocked) What… he survived?!

SKS:  I won’t be killed so easily.

JAK:   Let’s go, Rin. Hurry!

Rin starts running but SKS claws at the bridge again. The bridge breaks completely and all three of them fall into the deep valley below. Rin shrieks in terror. SES gasps and flies towards them. JKS is shocked that SES ditched the fight so readily.

JKS:   (thinking) Heh! If I’d known that girl was his weakness, I’d have used her as a hostage. But who thought he’d be so protective?

JKS swings his sword at SES, who dodges.

JKS:   Come on, come on, come on!

SES then leaps onto the rock face and takes Tokijin.

JKS:   Go to hell!

JKS throws his sword at SES which twists and surrounds him.

JKS:   (thinking) Got him!

SES, without turning around, flicks the blades with Tokijin. The blades then fly back at JKS and strikes the ground right in front of him.

JKS:   (horrified) My Snake-Bone sword was deflected back at me?

SES:   (thinking) Tsk. I missed him by just a little.

SES flies into the valley. JKS clothes, slashed by his own sword, shatters. JKS plops onto the ground in disbelief.

JKS:   He’s dangerous! How can I let Inuyasha’s brother kill me, before I kill Inuyasha myself? (looks in the distance) Isn’t that right, Inuyasha?

Cut to INU running along a mountain path. He is piggybacking KOG. KAG, SHI, HAK and GIN are on large KIR, flying behind INU.

KAG:  Inuyasha, where are we going?

INU doesn’t reply.

KAG:  Hey… Inuyasha?

INU:   (irritated) I don’t know! I have to carry this wimpy wolf to somewhere safe.

SHI:   Somewhere safe?

INU:   The Shichinintai are after Koga’s fragments. We don’t know when they’ll attack again!

KAG:  That’s true…

INU:   Come on, let’s hurry!

SHI:   That’s right, Kirara.

INU runs faster. KIR growls and follows.

Cut to SES landing in the valley. A river runs through it. SES looks at the river.

SES:   (thinking) Did she get washed away? The water has washed her scent away.

JAK is perched weakly on a rock. SES walks past him and JAK doesn’t move.

SES:   Jaken.

JAK grimaces and makes a ‘Oh no!’ expression.

SES:   Are you playing dead, Jaken?

JAK:   (panics and kowtows) Please forgive me, Lord Sesshomaru! I will find Rin even if it’d cost me my life!

SES starts walking off.

JAK:   Lord Sesshomaru? (runs after SES) W-Wait for me, Lord Sesshomaru! Are you angry?

[ End of ACT I: 12min 24sec ]

[ ACT II ]

SKS, in his physician state, carries Rin and walks through a forest. Rin wakes and is shocked.

SKS:  You’re awake?

Rin panics and struggles free. She gets off SKS and runs to a tree, staring at SKS in fear.

SKS:  What’s wrong? Why are you running? Don’t worry. I’m a physician.

Rin:  (thinking) He’s not the same person… as before?

Cut to SKS and Rin walking.

SKS:  I see. You had companions?

Rin:  They must be looking for me. That’s why I don’t want to go too far.

SKS:  While they’re looking for you, you’d better stay with me in this forest.

Rin:  Okay! (thinking) He… doesn’t look like a bad guy.

Cut to MIR and SAN climbing Mount Hakurei.

SAN:  There’s nothing here.

MIR:   Same here. I don’t sense any bad aura.

SAN:  Can Naraku really be in a place like this?

MIR:   Well, we have no choice but to keep on climbing. However, being separated like this makes me appreciate Inuyasha more.

SAN:  His great sense of smell really helps.

MIR:   Inuyasha can spend the whole night running around.

They notice a cave high up on the mountain above them.

MIR:   Sango… That cave…

SAN:  Yes… Let’s check it out.

Cut to KOH and KAN in the shrine which Hakushin is. KAN holds up her mirror to KOH. An image of MIR and SAN walking is shown in the mirror.

KOH:  (thinking) That woman… I want her to leave here without finding anything. I don’t want to fight her…

Cut to Rin and SKS coming out of the forest and reaching the village.

Rin:  You’re a village physician?

SKS:  My village is at the base of Mount Hakurei. By the way, Rin. There are many children like you at the village. Over there. That’s my village.

Cut to KIK on a cliff looking at Mount Hakurei in the distance.

KIK:   (thinking) The presence of a Sacred Jewel fragment is approaching the village. But this presence doesn’t belong to that man from before.

An image of BKS appears momentarily on the screen.

KIK:   This belongs to… Suikotsu. But this presence…!

Evening. Chiyo is cooking outside SKS’s hut.

Chiyo:  (singing) Clean is dirty, as dirty is clean. Good is bad…

SKS and Rin walk up to Chiyo and the children.

SKS:  (smiles) I’m home.

Chiyo:  Mister Suikotsu!

Yuuta and another kid slide open the door and see SKS. They are all surprised.

SKS:  I’m sorry… for leaving you guys.

Yuuta: Are you really… Mister Suikotsu?

SKS:  Yes… What’s wrong?

The children shake their heads.

SKS:  That’s right. This girl’s name is Rin. Please make her feel at home.

Rin makes a polite bow. Pan sideways to reveal JKS hiding behind a bush and looking on.

JKS:   This is bad. That stupid Suikotsu has completely reverted. I’d better wait here just in case. I have no choice but to wake him up. (puts a hand on his sword)

Several villagers appear and walk towards the hut.

Villager: It’s Mister Suikotsu.

Old villager: (frowns) He’s back.

SKS:  What’s wrong, everyone?

Elder:  Mister Suikotsu, I beg of you to leave the village.

Villager: It was because of you that the Shichinintai attacked this village. Moreover, your face looked different then…

Rin looks at SKS.

Elder:  You looked like a demon.

The Elder walks towards SKS. SKS smirks and claws at the Elder. Everyone is shocked. The Elder falls to the ground, dead. Rin and the children are horrified.

SKS:  How ungrateful. Don’t you remember how I’ve taken care of you?

The villager back off in terror and start to run.

SKS:  Hold it. (chases villagers)

Rin:  (thinking, backing away) I knew it… He’s the one who attacked us on the bridge.

SKS catches up with the villagers and kill them mercilessly.

Rin:  (starts to run) I-I have to leave.

JKS walks up and grabs Rin.

JKS:   Yo.

Rin shrieks.

Nighttime. SES is flying towards Mount Hakurei. JAK is lying weakly on SES’s furry tail.

SES:   (thinking) The scent… of those zombies. They’re at the base of Mount Hakurei.

JAK:   Lord Sesshomaru, perhaps I’m wrong, but I can sense the effects of the barrier from before.

SES doesn’t reply.

JAK:   (thinking) I knew he wouldn’t answer me. (nuzzles head into SES’s fur) But somehow, this fur feels really comfortable…

KIK is walking weakly in the forest with the Soul Catchers following.

KIK:   (thinking) The war continues. I’m back on the same path and this path reminds me of my cursed fate. I wonder… What awaits me beyond the darkness? (stops) Once again… Once again… I have to witness the same cursed fate…

KIK continues walking.

Back at the village. Corpses of the villagers are strewn across the grass. JKS walks up to SKS with Rin in his hand.

JKS:   Suikotsu, what’s wrong with you?

SKS:  Jakotsu, you were here?

JKS:   The other you would never hurt anyone. Which Suikotsu are you?

Chiyo, Yuuta and the children huddle together and look on in fear.

SKS:  Who knows? But I feel much better this way. I’ve always felt that something was missing. I was very afraid of losing myself. But not anymore. I am who I am.

JKS:   I don’t understand, does that mean the barrier will not affect you anymore?

SKS:  Yes. I came to Mount Hakurei to see if I would change. That physician hasn’t emerged. I’m alright now.

Chiyo:  M-Mister Suikotsu…

Yuuta: That’s not Mister Suikotsu! His face… His face is the same, but…

SKS walks towards the children.

Rin:  Everybody, run!

The children back away and huddle behind Yuuta. SKS walks up to them and brandishes his claws.

SKS:  A bunch of orphans… Do you think you can run away from me?!

SKS swings his claws.

Back to KIK. A few of the Soul Catchers disintegrate as KIK walks nearer and nearer to Mount Hakurei.

KIK:   (thinking) I’m sorry about this… I must hurry. The presence of the fragment is completely absorbed by a black light. If Suikotsu is overcome by his dark heart, he’ll kill the children.

Back with SKS. SKS moves in to kill the children, but something within him stops him. The children look up at SKS. He is trembling.

SKS:  D-Damn…

JKS:   Hey, what’s wrong?

SKS:  Shut up!

Children’s singing are played in the background: "Clean is dirty, as dirty is clean…"

SKS:  (thinking) What’s wrong? Why can’t I move? Damn those kids…

SKS struggles and an image of KIK flashes momentarily across the screen.

SKS:  Damn! Why am I thinking of that woman? (struggles and yells) Don’t mess with me…!

At the foot of Mount Hakurei, the Shichinintai battles with Inuyasha’s brother, Sesshomaru. Next on Inuyasha, "The Real Face: Exposed".
